the saddest blog that ever was

10.08.2003:

today you pointed with your pinkie
enumerated all my indexical beliefs
passed around like flashcards
my many inconsistencies;
jingled the the charms we've collected
(grace, the four humors, generosity of spirit)
delicately over the years, on your wrist;
insinuated my consumption of beef
belied an inner promiscuity.
that's when i slapped you
threw the zucchini muffin down the drain
with a force unforeseen in history.
dont ever dare to feed me again
when i'm not hungry.
broke your three dollar pipe, cracked your mirror
smashed your jewel case, burned all your CDs,
music stolen frying crisply in my ears so lovely;
jammed that razor deep into the grain of wood
that was once a post where we made love
just for good measure (indexical beliefs).
i snapped the bones of your defiance
one by one, over the moldy ruins
of last saturday's lunch (roast chicken with almonds)
a joint fea(s)t of architectural poignancy
still splayed across the kitchen table
banner to our sybaritic infidelities.
you toppled, i fell on the glass shards
littered like sprinklings of seeds
a promise waiting to be watered in mo(u)rning.
it is five oh two A.M.
and your pupils are so wide
when they flare out at me,
starburst warnings for signals ashore.
sails half mast, flag lowered gravely unto the floor.
yes. domesticity is sometimes like this.
